Chapter 6 - The Media BlitzkriegGreg was thrown out of the building so fast his feet barely touched the marble floor.

Silence descended back over the penthouse, but the fragile peace had been shattered. I sat on the edge of the velvet sofa, burying my face in my hands as hot, frustrated tears spilled down my cheeks.

“It’s over,” I sobbed quietly. “Even if you destroy him legally, Greg is right about one thing, Marcus. The tabloids are going to have a field day with this. A billionaire hiding a broke single mother in his penthouse? My face is going to be plastered across every newsstand in America by sunrise.”

Marcus sat down beside me on the sofa. He didn’t try to give me empty reassurances. Instead, he gently pulled my hands away from my face and handed me a tissue, his thumb tenderly wiping a tear from my cheek.

“Let them talk,” Marcus said softly.

“Easy for you to say!” I choked out. “You’re used to the spotlight! I’m just a normal person! My daughter is going to grow up in the shadow of your empire!”

“Then let her grow up in the light of truth,” Marcus said, his voice ringing with fierce conviction. “Emily, for ten years I hid behind PR teams, NDAs, and guarded gates because I was terrified of letting anyone in. But standing there watching your ex try to degrade you... I realized something. I don't care about the headlines anymore. I care about you.”

Before I could answer, my phone on the coffee table buzzed. Then it buzzed again. Then a continuous, frantic vibration started.

I picked it up. My screen was flooded with notifications. “Breaking News: Tech Billionaire Marcus Whitmore Spotted with Mystery Woman in Chicago Penthouse!” “Source Claims Whitmore Involved in Secret Romance with Disgraced Single Mother!” “Photos Emerge: Is Whitmore Ready to Settle Down?”

Attached to one of the articles was a high-resolution paparazzi photo taken through the penthouse window—showing Marcus kissing my forehead just hours earlier.

The world now knew. The cat was out of the bag. The storm had officially arrived.

“Look at that,” I whispered, my heart plummeting to my stomach. “It’s starting.”

Marcus glanced at the screen, took the phone gently from my trembling hand, and tossed it onto the sofa. He reached out, cupping my face in both of his warm hands, forcing me to look directly into his eyes.

“Let them watch,” Marcus whispered fiercely. “Tomorrow morning, I am holding a live global press conference at Whitmore Technologies headquarters. And I am going to tell the entire world exactly who you are to me.”
