Chapter 2 - The UnveilingThe ceremony flew by in a blur of rehearsed promises and hollow declarations. When the reception began in the adjacent ballroom, the atmosphere shifted from solemn vows to high-stakes corporate networking. Waiters circulated with trays of caviar, and the murmur of stock prices and portfolio valuations filled the air.

Ryan took the stage around 8:00 PM, stepping up to the mahogany podium bearing the logo of Brooks Capital Partners. Halcyon Strategic Holdings was emblazoned in bold gold lettering right beneath it.

“Thank you all for being here on the most important day of my life,” Ryan began into the microphone, his voice echoing smoothly across the room. He reached out and pulled Lauren up beside him, wrapping an arm around her waist. “As many of you know, building a legacy requires vision, resilience, and partners who share your unshakeable foundation. When my previous marriage ended—largely due to a failure to build a future together—I thought my dreams of a true family and dynasty were over.”

“But Lauren brought light back into my life,” Ryan continued, beaming down at her. “And today, not only am I celebrating our marriage and our upcoming child, but I am officially launching Brooks Capital Partners, backed by our primary institutional partner, Halcyon Strategic Holdings. Together, we are closing a multi-million-dollar acquisition phase that will secure our position in the Chicago market for the next decade.”

Applause thundered through the ballroom. Ryan raised his hands, basking in the adoration.

“Before we open the floor to toasts,” Ryan added smoothly, “I want to thank everyone who stood by us. Especially those who doubted us... because you only made our foundation stronger.”

I didn't clap. Instead, I calmly walked down the center aisle of the ballroom, every pair of eyes shifting from Ryan on the stage to the pale, composed woman in the navy coat.
