Chapter 20 - A New Dawn

That evening, the house was filled with the warm, comforting scent of fresh vanilla baking in the oven and soft laughter echoing down the hallway.
I sat on the back patio overlooking the Pacific Ocean, holding a steaming mug of chamomile tea. The steam rose gently into the cool evening breeze, carrying no hidden powders, no bitter secrets, and no lingering fears.
Footsteps approached softly from behind.
David stepped out onto the porch, handing me a small, beautifully wrapped velvet box.
“What’s this?” I asked, raising an eyebrow with a playful smile.
“Consider it a housewarming gift for a brand new chapter,” David said softly, leaning against the wooden railing beside me.
I opened the box. Inside rested a delicate, silver pendant shaped like a blooming lotus flower—symbolizing resilience, rebirth, and beauty rising from the mud.
I looked up into his warm, steady eyes.
“Thank you, David,” I whispered.
He reached out, gently taking my hand in his. “For the first time in ten years, Nora… you’re truly safe. No shadows. No lies.”
