CHAPTER 4 — The Name That Had Been Erased From History

That evening...

Prison Director Harold Bennett sat alone inside his office.

His phone rang once.

A secure line.

He answered immediately.

"We have the footage."

A calm voice replied.

"Did he attack first?"

"No."

"Did Walter throw a single punch?"

"No."

"Good."

The call ended.

Five minutes later...

A black government SUV rolled through the prison gates.

No markings.

No license plates.

Three officials stepped inside carrying sealed metal briefcases.

They never signed the visitor log.

Director Bennett escorted them into a private conference room.

One of the officials placed a fingerprint on the case.

CLICK.

The locks released.

Inside lay a thick file stamped:

TOP SECRET

Across the front was a photograph.

Not of an old janitor.

But of a younger man wearing a dark tactical uniform.

The name underneath read:

WALTER HAYES

Former Commander.

Federal Undercover Operations Division.

Forty-two years of active service.

Seventy-three successful infiltrations.

Nine hostage rescues.

Four dismantled criminal syndicates.

Zero operational failures.

Director Bennett slowly looked up.

"I knew he was experienced."

"I didn't know he was...him."

The senior official nodded.

"Most governments don't."

Another page revealed something even more shocking.

Walter had personally trained elite hostage rescue teams.

His defensive techniques were still taught to special operators around the world.

One handwritten note stood out.

Never underestimate age. Hayes' greatest weapon has always been patience.

Meanwhile...

Marcus sat inside his cell.

His swollen face stared into the darkness.

He replayed the laundry room fight over and over.

Something wasn't right.

No ordinary old man could move like that.

No ordinary janitor could remain so calm.

Just then...

His cell door quietly opened.

Not by a guard.

But by Officer Collins.

One of the corrupt officers secretly helping Marcus organize the prison escape.

Collins whispered,

"We've got a problem."

Marcus looked up.

"What?"

"The old man."

"I think he's investigating us."

Marcus laughed.

"He's just some retired cleaner."

Collins swallowed hard.

"I checked personnel records."

"They disappeared."

Marcus stopped smiling.

"What do you mean disappeared?"

"I mean...someone deleted everything."

At that exact moment...

Walter quietly pushed his cleaning cart down the hallway outside Marcus's cell.

As always...

His head remained lowered.

His mop glided across the floor.

No one noticed the tiny recording device hidden beneath the trash bag on his cart.

Every whispered conversation...

Every secret meeting...

Every corrupt deal...

Was being recorded.

Walter paused briefly outside Marcus's door.

Without even looking inside, he spoke softly.

"You still have time to make one good decision."

Marcus stepped toward the bars.

"You think you're better than me?"

Walter smiled faintly.

"No."

"I simply made my choice a long time ago."

Then he continued walking.

Marcus watched him disappear into the darkness.

For reasons he couldn't explain...

The most feared inmate in the prison suddenly felt something he had almost forgotten.

Fear.

Because deep inside...

He realized one terrifying possibility.

The old man wasn't trapped inside the prison with Marcus.

May you like

Marcus was trapped inside the prison...

With him.
