CHAPTER 4 — THE DISCOVERY NO ONE COULD EXPLAIN

The operating room became eerily still.

Every surgeon stared at the monitor.

The strange object attached to the bullet fragment moved again.

Not much.

Just enough to make everyone question what they were seeing.

Dr. Elena adjusted the ultrasound settings.

"Increase the resolution."

The image sharpened.

Now the object became clearer.

It looked like...

A tiny capsule.

"No..." one nurse whispered.

"Is that..."

"A tracking device?"

The room erupted.

"A tracker?"

"Inside a police dog?"

"Who would do that?"

Alex stared at the screen in disbelief.

"What are you saying?"

Dr. Elena enlarged the image again.

"It isn't part of the bullet."

"It's attached to it."

The elderly surgeon looked horrified.

"I've never seen anything like this."

Alex suddenly remembered something.

Three years earlier...

The criminal who shot Rex had escaped during the firefight.

His body was never found.

The case remained unsolved.

That man...

Igor Malenkov.

An international weapons trafficker.

Authorities believed he disappeared overseas.

Alex slowly looked up.

"You think..."

"Someone implanted that?"

Before anyone answered...

A young detective burst into the operating room.

"Alex!"

"You need to see this!"

He held a tablet in trembling hands.

"We reopened the warehouse investigation after hearing about Rex."

"We checked the old evidence again."

"What did you find?"

The detective placed the tablet on the table.

A paused security video filled the screen.

It had never been fully restored until now because the footage was heavily damaged.

Using modern AI enhancement software...

The image was finally clear.

The video showed Rex lying unconscious after the shooting.

Paramedics surrounded him.

Doctors rushed toward the ambulance.

Everything appeared normal.

Then...

A man wearing a medical mask leaned over Rex for exactly three seconds.

No one noticed him at the time.

He slipped something into the wound.

Then calmly walked away.

The camera captured only one clear detail before he disappeared.

A tattoo.

A black wolf.

Alex's breathing stopped.

"I know that symbol."

Every officer looked at him.

"It belongs to Igor Malenkov's organization."

The detective nodded.

"We checked Interpol records."

"The same tattoo appears in six international smuggling investigations."

Dr. Elena slowly looked back at Rex.

"So..."

"This wasn't an accident."

Alex's voice became ice cold.

"They never wanted Rex to die that day."

"They wanted him alive."

Everyone stared at him.

"Why?"

Alex's eyes widened as the answer finally came to him.

"The tracker..."

"It wasn't tracking Rex."

"It was tracking..."

"The police."

The room fell completely silent.

For three years...

Every raid...

Every undercover operation...

Every police convoy...

May have been secretly monitored.

Before anyone could process the horrifying realization—

The monitor beside Rex suddenly began screaming.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

His heart rate dropped sharply.

Blood pressure collapsed.

Dr. Elena shouted,

"He's crashing!"

Surgeons rushed into action.

Alex was pushed away from the table as the operating room erupted into chaos.

Then...

Just before the anesthesia mask covered Rex's face...

The German Shepherd slowly lifted his head...

Looked directly at Alex...

And barked once.

A strong, determined bark.

The same bark he always gave...

May you like

Right before leading Alex into danger.

To Be Continued...
