The public hearing at the Guadalajara municipal assembly hall was packed to absolute capacity. Television cameras lined the back of the room, broadcasting the high-stakes confrontation live across the entire state of Jalisco. The head of the regional development board—a slick, arrogant politician with deep ties to Alejandro’s former syndicate—smirked confidently from the podium, attempting to railroad our operational permits under the false guise of urban modernization and structural code violations.
"The applicant has failed to meet basic municipal compliance standards," the board director declared smoothly into his microphone, adjusting his gold cufflinks. "In the interest of public safety and economic progress, the board recommends immediate revocation of their operating licenses and clearance of the alley zone."
Just as the gavel was about to drop in their favor, the heavy oak doors at the back of the hall swung wide open with a resounding bang.
Mateo walked in, flanked by a team of federal anti-corruption investigators carrying heavy cardboard boxes filled with photocopied bank ledgers, offshore wire-transfer receipts, and signed bribery confessions. He stepped directly up to the public microphone, slamming a sworn affidavit from Alejandro’s former accountant onto the wooden desk, exposing the entire municipal bribery ring live on national television.
