Chapter 27 - A Quiet Evening Return

Following the grand ceremony in Mexico City, I returned quietly to Guadalajara late at night, escaping the fanfare, banquets, and television interviews. I walked down the familiar cobblestone path of the narrow alleyway alone.

The street was peaceful, bathed in the soft amber glow of modern historical lanterns. The new multi-story facility stood proudly beside the preserved original house, its windows dark and resting.

I unlocked the heavy wooden door of Carmen’s old home, stepping into the preserved room where the air still carried that faint, comforting scent of old lavender and dust. I sat down on the edge of the worn wooden bed, feeling its familiar, gentle groan beneath my weight, and let out a long, peaceful breath.
