Chapter 19 - The Final Echo in the Alley

That evening, after the graduation celebrations had quieted down and the campus had settled into stillness, I walked alone down the familiar cobblestone path of the narrow alleyway. Casa Carmen was closed for the night, its windows dark and peaceful under the starlit sky.

I unlocked the heavy wooden front door and stepped inside. The familiar scent of old lavender, polished wood, and warm spices greeted me like an old friend welcoming me home.

I walked over to the antique shelf where her broken radio still sat as a permanent monument to where our story began. I reached out, gently brushing my fingers across its dusty plastic casing. A soft, warm breeze drifted through the open window, rustling the framed photograph on the wall.

For a split second, the floorboards beneath my feet gave a familiar, comforting creak—like a gentle sigh of approval from the past. I smiled into the quiet room, whispering into the warm night air, "We made it, Carmen. Your house will never be lonely again."
