Chapter 11 - The Aftermath of the Storm

The morning sun broke over the Newport coastline, burning away the residual smoke and fog to reveal a pristine, undamaged estate. By 8:00 AM, federal vans had cleared the grounds, hauling away the last of the Crescent Syndicate operatives and leaving the Mercer property in absolute, undisturbed quiet.

Inside the main mansion’s study, Dominic sat behind his mahogany desk reviewing the finalized asset seizure documents. The collapse of the Crescent Syndicate had triggered a domino effect across international markets, instantly transferring billions in untracked offshore accounts directly under the oversight of the Mercer Foundation.

Marcus entered the room, setting a secure tablet down on the blotter. "Interpol has locked down their European servers. The entire syndicate leadership network in Zurich and Moscow has been rounded up. Brooke is being held in a maximum-security federal holding facility awaiting trial without bond."

Dominic didn't look up from his papers. "And her assets?"

"Completely frozen and reclaimed," Marcus replied. "Every offshore account, every hidden trust, every luxury property she acquired through extortion—it’s all liquidated."

Dominic nodded slowly. "Good. Ensure the east cottage trust fund is permanently locked with military-grade encryption so no one can ever tamper with it again."

"Already done, Boss."

As Marcus turned to leave, the heavy oak doors opened again, but this time it wasn't business. Natalie stepped into the study, holding a tray with a fresh cup of dark roast coffee and a warm plate of pastries. The shadows of exhaustion that had haunted her face months prior were completely gone, replaced by a radiant, peaceful smile.

"I see the international underworld couldn't even disrupt your morning schedule," Natalie teased softly, setting the tray down next to the stack of federal ledgers.

Dominic looked up, his stern demeanor softening instantly. "Global cartels are easy to manage, Nat. It's the domestic logistics of keeping Noah from tracking mud onto the white carpets that stress me out."

Natalie laughed, leaning against the edge of the desk. "Noah’s Little League game is this afternoon. He asked specifically if you were pitching batting practice beforehand."

Dominic closed his laptop with a definitive snap. "Tell him to grab his glove. Nobody strikes out my nephew on my property."
