CHAPTER 3 – The Janitor Who Knew Everything

The boardroom door closed behind the old janitor.
His name was Samuel Reed.
For twelve years, he had cleaned Sterling Financial after midnight. He emptied trash cans. Polished floors. Refilled coffee machines. And during all those years, almost nobody had ever asked his name.
But Arthur Whitmore knew it.
Arthur stood and placed a hand on Samuel’s shoulder.
“This man,” Arthur said, “has protected this company more than anyone sitting at this table.”
The executives exchanged confused glances.
Then Arthur pulled another document from the folder.
“For six months, Samuel has been sending me reports.”
The room froze.
Reports?
Samuel lowered his eyes, humble but steady.
“I didn’t spy,” he said. “I simply listened when people thought I was invisible.”
Arthur nodded.
“He reported harassment. Fraud. Fake charity donations. Secret layoffs planned right before Christmas. And one executive stealing client money while blaming junior employees.”
A loud gasp filled the room.
Daniel Harrison’s face turned pale.
Arthur slowly turned toward Vice President Richard Cole.
Richard forced a laugh.
“This is ridiculous. You’re trusting a janitor?”
Arthur’s eyes sharpened.
“No, Richard. I’m trusting the security recordings Samuel helped me find.”
The screen behind them suddenly turned on.
Video after video appeared.
Richard meeting shady investors.
Richard shredding documents.
Richard ordering Emily to reject “poor-looking visitors” because they made the company look bad.
Emily covered her mouth.
She had only been following orders.
Richard stood up angrily.
“You old fool! This company doesn’t need kindness. It needs power!”
Arthur smiled sadly.
“And that is why you will never have either.”
Police officers entered the boardroom seconds later.
Richard tried to run, but Samuel quietly stepped in front of the door.
For the first time all morning, every executive looked at the janitor with fear.
As Richard was dragged away, he screamed one final sentence.
“You think Samuel is loyal to you? Ask him what happened to your son!”
Arthur’s face changed.
The room went silent again.
Samuel’s eyes filled with tears.
Because Richard had just revealed the secret Arthur had buried for thirty years.
Arthur’s missing son was not dead.
May you like
And Samuel knew exactly where he was.
