Chapter 10 - The Legacy of the Romano EmpireFive years later.

The sun was setting over Lake Forest, casting a warm golden hue across the sprawling manicured lawns of the Romano estate.

In the rose gardens, a five-year-old boy with dark curls and fierce, intelligent eyes was running frantically across the grass, laughing hysterically as he chased a golden retriever.

"Catch me if you can, Daddy!" little Leo Romano shouted, his voice echoing across the courtyard.

Sitting on a wrought-iron bench beneath the shade of an ancient oak tree, Fiona smiled, sipping a cup of herbal tea. She wore a casual cream-colored cashmere sweater and jeans, looking every bit the picture of peaceful domesticity.

Except for the discreet, tactical earpiece resting snugly in her left ear, and the custom Glock holstered securely beneath the blazer draped over the back of her chair.

Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path behind her.

Alessio walked up, wearing a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his dark tattoos stark against his skin. He held a small bouquet of freshly picked white roses, extending them toward her with a gentle smile.

"For you, Mrs. Romano," Alessio said softly, sitting down beside her on the bench and wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

Fiona took the roses, inhaling their sweet fragrance before leaning her head against his shoulder. "Five years today since the night you pointed a Glock at my head in the nursery."

Alessio let out a low, rumbling laugh, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Best mistake I ever made. If I had pulled that trigger, I would have killed the only woman capable of running this empire by my side."

"I told you then, and I’ll tell you now," Fiona murmured, smiling as she watched their son do a cartwheel on the lawn. "You’re lucky I had better aim than you."

"Always," Alessio agreed, his dark eyes scanning the perimeter of the estate with the automatic vigilance of a syndicate boss who never truly slept, yet filled with the profound, unshakeable warmth of a man who had finally found his home.

In the distance, Dominic walked out onto the terrace, giving Alessio a subtle, affirmative nod confirming that the northern borders were secure, the shipping lanes were clear, and the family was safe.

Alessio nodded back, turning his attention entirely back to his wife and his son as the sun dipped below the horizon of Lake Michigan, sealing the legend of the Romano empire for generations to come.
