Chapter 14 - The Blueprint of Vengeance

The digital file played through Matteo’s desktop speakers at high volume. Barone’s voice echoed sharply through the quiet study: Burn every shipping container he has docked in Genoa by midnight...

Matteo stood motionless behind his oak desk. His face was a mask of cold, terrifying granite. The gray eyes that had once looked upon the world with dead indifference now burned with the controlled fury of a dormant volcano.

He picked up his secure satellite phone and dialed a single extension.

"Giovanni," Matteo said quietly when the line connected.

"Boss. I'm listening."

"Barone wants to burn my shipping lanes in Genoa."

"Shall we deploy the coastal security teams to intercept his arsonists?"

"No," Matteo’s voice dropped to a lethal whisper. "Let them set the fire. Let them believe they have the upper hand. While they are standing in my yards in Genoa, I want every single asset, warehouse, casino, and front corporation belonging to the Barone family surrounded and seized within forty-five minutes."

Giovanni let out a low, appreciative whistle on the other end of the line. "A complete systemic wipe, Boss. Understood. Should we leave survivors?"

"Leave Barone," Matteo commanded. "Bring him to me. Alive. I want to explain to him personally what happens when someone brings violence too close to my home."
