Chapter 11 - The Sub-Basement EscapeThe heavy steel fire door slammed shut behind Lily as she bolted up the concrete stairs, her lungs burning with every breath. The cold, damp air of the sub-basement gave way to the faint smell of industrial bleach and floor wax as she climbed higher, her mind racing at a million miles an hour.

Arthur Sterling.

The name echoed in her head. The philanthropic titan, the man whose face graced the lobby of half the tech incubators in the country, was the shadow pulling the strings of the entire corporate conspiracy. He had weaponized her father's research, and now he wanted to do the same to her.

Footsteps echoed sharply on the metal landing below her—heavy, rhythmic, and closing the distance fast. Jax’s security team was good, but Sterling’s private operatives moved like ghosts.

"Hey! Stop right there!" a harsh voice barked from the stairwell below, bouncing off the concrete walls.

Lily didn't look back. She threw her weight against the next heavy door, tumbling out into the level thirty-five maintenance corridor of the CrossTech tower. The hallway was quiet, lined with towering air-conditioning units and auxiliary server racks humming with low-frequency energy.

She ducked behind a row of cooling towers just as a pair of dark-suited operatives burst through the stairwell door, scanning the corridor with tactical flashlights.

"Check the ventilation shafts," one of them hissed. "She couldn't have gotten far."

Lily crouched low, her stuffed bear clutched tightly in one arm. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She knew she couldn't outrun them in the open, but she knew this building better than anyone else—because while everyone else saw walls, Lily saw the mechanical veins of the structure.
