Chapter 7 - The Unseen ShadowThree months later, the CrossTech building was bustling with renewed energy. The Prometheus Engine was no longer a symbol of corporate failure; it was hailed as the greatest engineering breakthrough of the century, powering sustainable clean energy plants across three continents.

Maria Bennett was settling into her new life on the fiftieth floor, though she still occasionally walked down to the lower labs with a cup of coffee just to check on the night cleaning crew.

And Lily Bennett had her own private R&D desk installed right next to her mother's office, where she spent her afternoons designing next-generation atmospheric filtration systems using her father's old notebooks.

But high above the city, in the penthouse suite of a competing skyscraper across town, someone was watching news footage of Ethan Cross on a wall-mounted flat-screen TV.

A man in a sleek, dark gray suit stood with his hands clasped behind his back, swirling a glass of amber whiskey. His face was hidden in the shadows, illuminated only by the cold, harsh light of the city skyline outside.

"Marcus Vale failed," a synthesized voice chimed from a laptop on the mahogany desk behind him. "The girl intercepted the bypass sequence before the core dump could be secured."

The man in the suit didn't raise his voice. He didn't slam his glass. He simply took a slow, measured sip of his whiskey, a thin, cruel smile playing across his lips.

"Marcus was always a mediocre pawn," the man said softly, his voice echoing in the silent penthouse. "He cared too much about money and not enough about the mission."

He turned away from the window, walking over to the desk and tapping the screen of the laptop with a single, manicured finger.

"If a ten-year-old child can unravel six months of work in ninety seconds," the man whispered, his eyes gleaming with a dark, dangerous intelligence, "then that means the Bennett girl isn't just lucky... she's the only one alive who understands how my father's original architecture really works."

The laptop screen flickered, displaying a scanned photograph of Lily Bennett walking into the CrossTech lobby, holding her stuffed bear tightly against her chest. Below the photo, a classified file opened automatically: Project Prometheus - Phase Two.

The man in the suit chuckled darkly. "Let them celebrate their little victory. Cross thinks he won the war. He doesn't even realize we haven't played our opening move yet."
