Chapter 6 - THE NEW DAWN

Two months later, the cold October rain had given way to the crisp, bright chill of a December morning. The Narragansett Bay shimmered under a pale winter sun, its surface calm and undisturbed.
Inside the Carver mansion’s private medical wing, the frantic beeping of monitors was drowned out by the most beautiful sound in the world: the sharp, healthy cry of a newborn child.
Dr. Sterling—not the corrupt judge, but his estranged son who had cooperated with the federal investigation—smiled as he wrapped the tiny bundle in a soft, white cotton blanket and handed it directly to Hannah.
"A healthy baby boy," the doctor announced, wiping his brow. "Ten fingers, ten toes, and a set of lungs that could wake the dead."
Hannah cradled the infant against her chest, tears streaming freely down her face as she looked down at the tiny, perfect face. He had a tuft of dark hair and tiny hands that immediately curled into tight fists.
The door opened quietly.
Daniel walked in. He was wearing his usual charcoal suit, but as he approached the bed, he unbuttoned his cuffs and rolled his sleeves up. His tough, impenetrable exterior melted away the moment his slate-grey eyes locked onto the small bundle in Hannah’s arms.
He sat on the edge of the mattress, his large hands trembling slightly as he reached out to touch the baby’s tiny cheek.
"He looks like you," Daniel whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"He has your stubborn chin," Hannah smiled, her voice cracking with happy tears.
Daniel looked up from the baby and met Hannah’s eyes. The months of fear, grief, and vengeance felt like a lifetime away. They had survived the wolves, the corrupt judges, and the gilded cages.
"What are we going to call him?" Daniel asked softly.
Hannah looked down at her son, then toward the window where the winter sun was finally breaking through the clouds over the harbor.

"Aaron Caleb Carver," she said firmly.
Daniel nodded slowly, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips. "Aaron Caleb Carver. Let the city know the Carver legacy has a new protector."
