Chapter 12 - Shadows in BrooklynAcross town in a heavily fortified brownstone in Brooklyn, Don Vincente Rossi slammed his fist onto a billiard table, sending the balls scattering across the felt.

"Alessandro was a fool," Rossi snarled, his face twisting with irritation as he glared at his capos. "He had the inside track for three years and couldn't finish off a man grieving a ghost. Now Dominic Moretti is back on top, sharper than ever."

A younger, hot-headed capo named Marco stepped forward, running a hand over his slicked-back dark hair. "Boss, Alessandro’s exile left a lot of loose ends. The waterfront crews are unsettled. If Dominic is distracted by domestic life—rumor has it he’s playing host to some housekeeper and her kid—he’s vulnerable in ways he hasn't been in a decade."

Rossi narrowed his eyes, lighting a thick Cuban cigar. "A housekeeper's kid? That’s what brought the great Dominic Moretti back from the dead? Some fairy tale?"

"That's what the street whispers say," Marco smirked. "A little girl in pajamas broke the invincible mafia boss. If we hit his soft spot—if we take away the thing that brought him peace—he’ll shatter permanently, and we take the docks."

Rossi stared into the curling smoke of his cigar, a slow, predatory grin spreading across his face. "Find out where the girl and her mother live when they aren't locked inside that fortress. Let's see how well Dominic sleeps when he hears a different kind of bedtime story."
