Chapter 7 - The Second Folder

"It’s not a forgery, Veronica," a cold, calm voice echoed from the back of the cathedral.

Every head snapped around.

Standing in the open double doors, bathed in the brilliant autumn sunlight streaming in from the street, was a woman dressed in a sharp, impeccably tailored midnight-blue pantsuit. Her silver-blond hair was pulled back into a sleek chignon, and her dark sunglasses shielded her eyes.

She pulled the glasses down, revealing eyes sharp, clear, and completely fearless.

Me.

Sarah Vance—no, Sarah Hargrove. Using my maiden name, backed by eighty million dollars of their own corporate capital and an international legal team.

"Sarah?!" Carter gasped, dropping the manila folder as if it had burned his skin. He stared at me as if I were a ghost risen from the grave. "You're... you're in Sydney. My mother said—"

"Your mother lies, Carter," I said, my heels clicking rhythmically against the stone floor as I walked down the center aisle, stepping past rows of stunned socialites and gaping politicians. "She told you I was broken. She told you I took the money and ran. But she forgot one fundamental rule about architects: we don't just walk away from unstable foundations. We test them until they collapse."

I stopped ten feet from the altar, reaching into my leather portfolio to pull out a duplicate set of documents.

"You wanted heirs, Carter," I said, my voice carrying clearly to every corner of the sanctuary. "You let your mother convince you that my inability to get pregnant was a personal insult to your legacy. You let this woman crawl into your bed, whisper in your ear, and convince you that she was carrying your bloodline."

I turned my gaze slowly toward Veronica, who was now backed against the altar steps, trembling violently.

"Except Veronica wasn't just sleeping with you, Carter," I continued smoothly. "She was also sleeping with your head of security, Travis Cole—the very man who helped rig your company audits and tried to silence anyone who asked too many questions. And when Travis was arrested by federal marshals three months ago, his personal digital backups landed straight in my hands."

I held up the second manila folder.

Document Two: Financial Embezzlement and Corporate Fraud.

"Not only are those twins not yours, Carter," I said, my voice ringing with absolute cold satisfaction, "but Veronica and your late father's estate manager have been systematically siphoning funds from Vance Enterprises into offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands for the last four years. The eighty million dollars your mother paid me to disappear? That wasn't my severance package. That was the first installment of the corporate assets I legally seized through court-ordered receivership yesterday morning."
