Chapter 8 - The Third and Fourth Folders

The silence in the cathedral was absolute, broken only by the sound of Veronica’s frantic, ragged breathing.

Eleanor clutched the church pew, her chest heaving as realization crashed over her like a tidal wave. She had invited her own executioner into the house, funded her own downfall with corporate reserves, and handed her entire empire to a woman she had spent six years treating like dirt.

"You... you stole my company?" Carter whispered, staring at me with a look of pure, unadulterated horror. Not because he loved me. Not because he missed me. But because he realized he was ruined.

"I didn't steal anything, Carter," I corrected him sharply. "I simply collected what was owed to me after six years of unpaid labor, emotional abuse, and medical gaslighting. You built your empire on lies, debt, and stolen designs. I merely signed the demolition permit."

I walked right up to the altar, stopping just inches from where he stood in his ruined Tom Ford tuxedo. I reached into my portfolio, pulled out the third and fourth folders, and dropped them neatly onto the velvet cushion of the bridal kneelers.

Document Three: The Original Architectural Designs for the Skyline Tower — Stolen and Patented by Carter Vance in 2022. Document Four: Finalized Divorce Decree and Full Asset Transfer, signed by a federal judge in Sydney.

"You always said architecture required commitment, Carter," I whispered, my eyes locking onto his wide, terrified pupils. "You said once something is poured, bolted, or framed into place, you can't pretend you didn't make a choice."

I reached up, unpinned my lapel, and let my old diamond wedding ring—the one I had left on the kitchen counter months ago—drop onto the top of the stack with a sharp, metallic clink.

"You made your choice," I said. "Now live in the ruins."
