Chapter 8 - The Queen’s AscentThree months later.

The front-page headline of the Wall Street Financial Journal read: THE NEW ARCHITECT OF NORTHSTAR: HOW CAMILLE ROWAN RESAPED THE INDUSTRY.
Below the headline was a full-page portrait of me standing on the private balcony of Northstar Dominion’s 72nd-floor penthouse. My emerald suit caught the morning sunlight, my expression calm, resolute, and utterly unyielding. Beside me stood Odessa Crane, leaning on her cane with a proud, razor-sharp grin that signaled the passing of an empire to a worthy successor.
Adrian Vance was no longer a name mentioned in elite financial circles. His former firm had been legally absorbed into Northstar’s development portfolio as a minor regional subsidiary, and he was currently working out of a cramped, windowless cubicle as a mid-level risk analyst—ironically, reporting directly to a junior manager who used to fetch coffee for him.
Life had moved on with terrifying speed.
That morning, Odessa walked into my office holding a crystal glass of champagne.
“To the youngest CEO in Northstar history,” Odessa toasted, clinking her glass against mine. “You survived the fire, Camille. And you turned the ash into a kingdom.”
“I didn't do it alone,” I smiled, looking out over the sprawling skyline of the city—a skyline built on foundations I had quietly designed, funded, and protected.

“No,” Odessa agreed, her eyes twinkling with wicked amusement. “You had a little help from a foolish man who thought he was the master of his own house.”
We both laughed, the sound echoing through the glass-walled office that overlooked an empire he had lost because he was too arrogant to see the woman standing right beside him.
