Chapter 17 - The Final Verdict“Case dismissed with prejudice,” Judge Harrison banged his gavel, the sharp sound echoing through the solemn courtroom. “Furthermore, I am referring Julian Thorne and Marcus Vance to the federal prosecutor’s office for malicious prosecution, perjury, and conspiracy to commit corporate fraud.”

A wave of murmurs erupted through the gallery as flashbulbs went off behind the press barrier.
I turned around and walked down the center aisle of the courtroom, my head held high, my posture unyielding. As I passed Marcus Vance, he couldn't even look me in the eye. He was staring at the floor, a broken man of a bygone era.
Outside the courthouse steps, a wall of cameras and microphones awaited me.
“Miss Rowan! Miss Rowan! What is your response to today’s historic ruling?” shouted a journalist from the Financial Times.
I stopped at the top of the grand stone steps, looking out over the city skyline where Northstar Dominion’s gleaming towers pierced the afternoon clouds.

“Today’s ruling isn't just a legal victory,” I spoke clearly into the forest of microphones, my voice steady and resolute. “It is a message to every woman whose brilliance has been stolen, silenced, or hidden behind another person’s name. You are not a shadow. You are the foundation. And no one can build an empire by standing on your neck forever.”
Applause broke out among the crowd. Flashbulbs blinded the lenses. And miles away, in a cramped, windowless cubicle, Adrian Vance watched the live broadcast on a flickering office monitor, finally realizing the magnitude of what he had thrown away.
