“They weren't just hiding an affair,” I said, standing up and pacing across the polished hardwood floor as the pieces finally snapped into place. “They were planning to drain the company accounts, declare corporate insolvency on the international branch, and skip the country together with half a million dollars of my family’s money.”
“Which explains why Julian was so desperate to keep you quiet when you caught them in the parking garage,” Arthur added grimly. “If you had made a scene that night, the board audit would have been triggered immediately. They needed time to execute the final wire transfer scheduled for next Monday.”
I stopped pacing and looked down at the transfer confirmations. Monday. Today was Friday. That gave us exactly seventy-two hours to intercept the funds before they vanished offshore permanently.

“Get our chief legal counsel on the phone with the federal cyber-fraud division right now,” I ordered, my voice hardening into absolute resolve. “Freeze every asset, every account, and every personal credit line associated with both of them. I want a federal injunction slapped on every passport they own before the sun sets.”
“Consider it done,” Arthur said, standing up and pulling his phone from his pocket. He paused at the door, looking back with a proud smile. “Your grandfather would have been proud of you today, Claire. You didn't just survive a betrayal. You found the root system.”
