Chapter 10 - The War Has Just BegunCharlotte didn't look up from her mother’s journal. She kept her hands steady, resting flat against the wooden desk as the footsteps echoed across the plush rug.

“I thought I gave strict instructions that no one was to enter my office without clearance,” Charlotte said coldly, her voice devoid of fear.
“Ah, protocols are so easily rewritten, my dear,” a smooth, unfamiliar voice replied.
Charlotte slowly raised her head.
Standing by the doorway was a tall, impeccably dressed man in a charcoal-grey bespoke suit. He looked to be in his late forties, with silver-streaked hair, piercing ice-blue eyes, and a calm, terrifyingly polite smile playing on his lips.
As he stepped further into the light of the desk lamp, he raised his left hand to adjust his collar.
There it was.
The heavy silver ring with the engraved serpent glinted sharply under the office lights.
“Allow me to introduce myself properly, Chairwoman Vale,” the man said smoothly, walking toward her desk and pulling out the leather visitor's chair without waiting for an invitation. “I am Julian Thorne. And unlike my clumsy predecessors—Marcus and Richard—I don't leave loose ends.”
Charlotte didn't flinch. She leaned back in her leather executive chair, locking her dark, unyielding eyes directly onto the man who represented the true apex predator of the conspiracy.
“You’re trespassing in my building, Mr. Thorne,” Charlotte said, her voice steady and razor-sharp.
Julian Thorne chuckled softly, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the desk. “Is it really your building, Charlotte? Or are you just keeping it warm for us until the final transaction is signed?”
The air in the room grew suffocatingly tense. The battle for the Solmere Empire hadn't ended in the lobby yesterday—it was only the opening skirmish of a much larger, deadlier war.
Charlotte stared back at him, a fierce, unbreakable fire burning deep within her eyes. She slowly reached down to press the hidden master lockdown button beneath her desk.

“We’ll see about that,” Charlotte whispered, a dangerous smile touching her lips. “Welcome to my empire, Mr. Thorne. Let’s see how long you survive here.”
