Chapter 4 - The Betrayal UnmaskedBefore Victoria could find her voice to retort, the private VIP elevator doors at the back of the lobby slid open with a sharp ding.

Out rushed Marcus Vance, his face stark white, beads of sweat glistening on his forehead. Behind him hurried Richard Sterling and Elena Rostova, their usual composed expressions completely shattered by panic.

“Charlotte!” Marcus blurted out, his voice cracking awkwardly as he pushed through the stunned crowd of elites. He tried to force a warm, avenging-uncle smile onto his face, though his eyes darted frantically toward the glowing red lobby screens. “My dear niece! Oh, thank goodness you’re safe! We’ve been searching everywhere for you—there were reports that you were kidnapped, we were beside ourselves with worry!”

The onlookers murmured in confusion. Niece? The wealthy, powerful Marcus Vance was related to this girl in the tank top?

Charlotte didn't smile. She didn't flinch. She simply stood her ground, watching Marcus approach like a predator studying a cornered animal.

“Saved your breath, Uncle Marcus,” Charlotte said, her voice dripping with venom. “You can stop acting. The performance is over.”

Marcus stopped dead in his tracks. The fake warmth vanished from his face, replaced by a hard, calculating glint. He realized instantly that the charade was up. The red screens overhead were broadcasting her legal credentials to every terminal in the global network.

“Charlotte,” Marcus said, lowering his voice into a harsh, threatening whisper as he stepped closer. “Don't be foolish. You’re just a girl. You think a few red lights and a piece of plastic give you control over a multi-billion-dollar global enterprise? The board has already voted. Your guardianship papers are signed. You have nothing.”

“Is that so?” Charlotte tilted her head, a dangerous glint in her eyes.

She snapped her fingers.

From behind the reception desk, a young, unassuming IT technician—whom Marcus had never noticed before—stepped forward carrying a heavy, encrypted laptop. He plugged a cord directly into the main lobby mainframe.

“Direct feed from the corporate server rooms,” the technician announced loudly into a handheld mic. “Uploading all encrypted financial files concerning the embezzlement of the Solmere Trust Fund, dated from the day of Eleanor Vale’s tragic accident.”

Click.

Instantly, the massive LED screens hanging above the lobby shifted from red to crisp, high-definition video feeds and financial spreadsheets.

Clear, undeniable audio began to play through the high-end surround sound speakers of the luxury hotel lobby.

“Just make sure the brakes fail on her car,” a voice—unmistakably Marcus Vance’s—echoed clearly across the entire room. “Once Eleanor is out of the picture, we’ll isolate Charlotte, forge the institutionalization papers, and the entire empire falls right into our laps.”

The color vanished from Marcus’s face. The entire room erupted into explosive gasps and chaotic shouting. Every single high-society guest stepped back, staring at Marcus as if he were a monster.
