Chapter 12 - The Dark Room NegotiationsIn the pitch-black boiler room, the only light came from the faint green glow of Miller’s digital air monitor.

"Who locked the door?!" Inspector Robert shouted, slamming his fists against the thick steel hatch. "Open up! This is a state official mandate!"
"It's not the security system," Arthur said calmly, his voice cutting through the panic in the dark. He flicked on his own tactical flashlight, the bright white beam cutting across the steam pipes. "The system is reacting to an external override from the sub-level."
"Open the door, Vance! What is happening?!" Miller cried out, backing away as a low, rhythmic tapping sound echoed from inside the concrete wall behind them.
Tap... tap... scratch...
"The experiment has outgrown its containment," Arthur murmured, almost to himself. He finally realized the terrifying truth: the loop wasn't just a psychological trap or a cyclical memory wipe. The entity living in the walls was evolving, demanding a sacrifice to open the next phase.
"What are you talking about?!" Robert roared, drawing a small emergency flashlight from his pocket and pointing it at Arthur's face. "You're hiding something catastrophic here. When I get out of this—"
"You won't get out of this, Robert, unless we cooperate," Arthur interrupted, his voice dead serious. He stepped right up to the inspector, grabbing the flashlight beam and redirecting it toward a small, previously unnoticed vent at the base of the wall.

Peering through the rusty slats of the vent was a pair of glowing, amber eyes.
The eyes blinked slowly, staring directly at Robert with an unsettling, predatory intelligence.
