The static hum of the old fluorescent lights in Ward B felt heavier tonight, pressing down on the linoleum floors like a physical weight. Dr. Arthur Vance stared at the glowing monitor on his desk, his eyes burning with exhaustion. On the screen, room 204 was bathed in the pale, sickly green glow of infrared night vision. / Chapter 14 / 15

Chapter 14 - The ConvergenceArthur stepped slowly toward Miller, who was shaking so violently he could barely stand.

"Doctor... please... I didn't see anything," Miller sobbed, sliding down the side of the boiler until he hit the floor. "I swear to God, I won't say a word to anyone."

Arthur stopped two feet away from him. He didn't look like a monster; he looked profoundly tired. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a small, sterile syringe filled with a clear, shimmering blue liquid, and knelt down beside the young man.

"You won't say anything, Miller," Arthur said softly, pressing the cold needle against the side of the officer's neck. "Because by the time you wake up, you won't remember why you came here."

"What... what are you doing to me..." Miller slurred, his eyes rolling back as the powerful amnesiac and neural remapping serum flooded his bloodstream.

"We are just editing the history books, Miller," Arthur whispered as the young officer slumped unconscious onto the floor. "Just like we always do."

Twenty minutes later, the heavy steel door of the boiler room unlocked itself with a sharp click.

Arthur walked out into the main hallway, carrying Miller over his shoulder as if he weighed nothing at all. Nurse Higgins was waiting at the end of the corridor, holding a fresh medical file and a clean lab coat.

"Did the inspection conclude successfully, Doctor?" Higgins asked, her face completely blank, betraying no emotion.

Higgins nodded approvingly, opening the door to the patient intake registry. "Welcome aboard, Dr. Miller. Your room is ready."
