Chapter 3 - Shadows of the SyndicateThe Bloodline ProtocolThe safehouse at Blackwood Creek was a fortified fortress buried deep within a pine forest, invisible to satellite tracking. Rain slammed against the reinforced glass windows as Dominic paced the dimly lit study, a half-empty glass of scotch resting on the mahogany desk.

Elena sat wrapped in a heavy wool blanket near the fireplace, color slowly returning to her skin. The physical weakness was fading, but the psychological horror was taking its toll.
"Seven years," Dominic said softly, his back turned to her. "You sat at my dining table. You slept in my bed. You watched me grieve my mother on her anniversary every single year... knowing your father pulled the trigger."
"I was ten years old when he took her life, Dominic!" Elena cried out, standing up, the blanket slipping from her shoulders. "I didn't choose him! I was a child forced into a ruthless psychological experiment! They conditioned me to be the perfect weapon. I was supposed to poison you on our wedding night!"
Dominic turned slowly, his eyes colder than ice. "Why didn't you?"
"Because when you took off my veil," Elena's voice shattered, "you didn't look at me like a piece of meat or a business deal. You looked at me with honor. You looked at me like I was human. I had spent twenty years in a hellhole being trained to kill, and in five seconds, you made me want to live."
She stepped toward him, her hands trembling.
"I made a deal with my handler, Gabriel," she continued. "I told him I would gather intel on your shipping routes slowly, painfully slowly, as long as they let you live. But the rule was absolute: I was never allowed to fall in love with you. If I showed emotional attachment, if I ever spoke those three words, they would assume I had gone rogue and activate the extermination clause."
"Which is?"
"They placed sleeper agents in every branch of your syndicate," Elena revealed. "Your captains, your accountants, your bodyguards... half of them don't work for you, Dominic. They work for Gabriel. The moment Gabriel realizes I've betrayed the mission, your empire collapses from the inside."
Suddenly, the front gate alarms blared a harsh, screeching tone.
The security monitors on the wall flickered. The camera feeds from the perimeter showed high-tech tactical vehicles breaking through the iron gates. But these weren't rival mafia guys.
These were Dominic’s own private security forces, led by his trusted right-hand man, Marcus.
Marcus's voice boomed through the safehouse intercom system, stripped of all former respect.
"Dominic! Step outside with the girl!" Marcus called out calmly. "It's over, boss. Gabriel wants her back. And he offered the rest of us your empire in exchange for your head."
May you like
Dominic looked at the monitors, then slowly turned to Elena. A terrifying, dark smile played at the edges of his lips.
"They think I built an empire on patience," Dominic whispered, reaching under his desk and pulling out a heavy steel briefcase. "They forgot what I built it on before that."
