Chapter 4 - The Sunrise Shock

Julian stepped into the ruined living room, scanning the area until his eyes landed on Dante’s unconscious body.
"Where's the boy, Elena? And where is the drive?" Julian demanded, leveling his rifle at her head.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Elena said, standing defensively over the trapdoor, trying to hide her shaking hands. "He arrived alone. The boy froze to death miles back."
Julian laughed, a cold, hollow sound. "Don't lie to me. Leo's wooden toy was found near the perimeter. I know he's here. Search the place!" he barked to his men.
Two thugs began ripping the cabin apart, smashing furniture and tearing down curtains. Elena braced herself, knowing it was only a matter of seconds before they pulled back the rug.
Suddenly, the first rays of dawn broke through the shattered windows. The blizzard had completely stopped, leaving a blinding, pristine white landscape outside. But as the sun illuminated the valley, a low, collective gasp came from the men outside.
Julian’s radio sputtered to life. “Boss... we’ve got a problem. A huge problem. Look at the ridge.”
Julian frowned and walked to the shattered doorway. Elena followed his gaze out the window.
The rising sun illuminated the snow-covered hills surrounding the cabin. The Varga syndicate thought they had surrounded the cabin with twenty SUVs. But now, lining the entire crest of the mountain, descending from every road, trail, and clearing, were more vehicles.
Black, identical, heavy-duty SUVs.
They weren't Julian's.
May you like
Elena counted them as they poured over the ridge like a dark tidal wave. Ten. Fifty. One hundred. The numbers kept growing until a massive armada of 420 black SUVs completely encircled Julian's men, trapping the traitors in a vise grip of steel and tinted glass.
