Chapter 5 - The True King Arrives

The sheer scale of the arriving force brought an absolute, terrifying silence to the valley. Julian’s men lowered their weapons, completely outnumbered and outgunned. The 420 SUVs stopped simultaneously, their engines creating a synchronized, deep thrum that shook the snow off the pine trees.
The doors of the lead SUV opened. A man stepped out, wearing a tailored charcoal coat, completely unfazed by the sub-zero temperatures. He had silver hair and an aura of absolute authority.
Beside Elena, Dante suddenly stirred, coughing up a bit of blood but opening his eyes. A grim smile spread across his face as he looked out the window.
"Who is that?" Elena whispered, her heart pounding.
"My father," Dante croaked. "The real head of the syndicate. I was never the boss, Elena. I was just the prince. They thought they could ambush me because my father was supposedly overseas."
The silver-haired man walked calmly down the snowy path, flanked by a hundred heavily armed soldiers. Julian’s men instantly dropped their weapons into the snow, raising their hands in surrender. Julian himself turned pale, his rifle shaking in his grip.
The older man stepped into the cabin, his eyes immediately bypassing Julian and landing on Dante, then on Elena.
"You saved my son," the man said, his voice deep and resonant. "And my grandson?"
Elena, still cautious, walked over to the rug, pulled it back, and opened the trapdoor. Leo climbed out, crying out "Grandpa!" as he ran past Julian and threw his arms around the old man's legs.
The old man hugged the boy tightly, then looked up at Julian, his eyes turning to ice. "Julian Hart. You thought you could orchestrate a coup, kill my family, and steal my empire? You forgot one thing."
"W-what's that, Don Vittorio?" Julian stammered, sweating despite the freezing cold.
May you like
Vittorio looked at Elena. "You forgot that your sister is a much better judge of character than you are. And she belongs to a family that never forgives a traitor."
CHAPTER 5 HOOK: Julian was cornered, but a cornered rat is always the most dangerous. With a desperate yell, he grabbed Elena, pulling her in front of him as a human shield and pressing a knife to her throat.
