CHAPTER 1 – The Miracle Everyone Celebrated… Until the Doctor Went Silent

Emma Carter had waited seven years to hear the words she thought might never come.

"You're pregnant."

After countless failed IVF treatments, miscarriages, and nights spent crying herself to sleep, she and her husband, Daniel, had almost given up hope.

But today was different.

The ultrasound room was filled with laughter as the technician spread warm gel across Emma's stomach.

Daniel squeezed her hand.

"We finally made it," he whispered, tears already forming in his eyes.

The screen flickered.

A tiny heartbeat appeared.

Then another.

The technician smiled.

"Well... congratulations."

Emma laughed nervously.

"Twins?"

The technician grinned.

"Actually..."

She zoomed out.

Three tiny heartbeats.

"No..."

Daniel nearly fell out of his chair.

"Triplets?"

The technician laughed again.

"Keep looking."

She adjusted the image one more time.

A fourth heartbeat appeared.

Emma covered her mouth.

"Oh my God..."

Four babies.

Four tiny miracles.

Daniel cried openly, hugging his wife while the nurse wiped away her own tears.

The room erupted in excitement.

Everyone was smiling.

Everyone...

Except the doctor.

Dr. Harrison had been unusually quiet.

He stared at the monitor without blinking.

His smile slowly disappeared.

Emma noticed immediately.

"Doctor..."

No answer.

He zoomed in.

Then zoomed in again.

His face turned pale.

Daniel's excitement faded.

"Is something wrong?"

The doctor swallowed hard.

"I... need another scan."

The room instantly fell silent.

The nurse stopped smiling.

The technician stepped away from the machine.

Emma felt her heart racing.

"What is it?"

The doctor didn't answer.

Instead, he called another specialist.

Minutes later...

A second doctor entered.

Then a third.

Now three specialists stood around the monitor, whispering to each other.

Daniel felt cold.

"Please... somebody tell us what's happening."

No one spoke.

Finally...

Dr. Harrison slowly turned toward Emma.

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I've delivered babies for twenty-eight years..."

He looked back at the screen.

"...and I've never seen anything like this."

Emma's blood ran cold.

"What do you mean?"

The doctor pointed toward the monitor.

"Those aren't the reason we stopped the scan."

Emma stared.

"Then... what is?"

May you like

The doctor took one long breath before saying the words that changed their lives forever.

"There's... someone else inside the image."
