CHAPTER 10 – The Choice That Would Save Humanity

The glow spread beneath Emma's skin like golden light.

Not painful.

Warm.

Alive.

Doctors rushed into the room.

Every monitor in the hospital suddenly synchronized.

Every heartbeat became one.

Four tiny hearts...

Beating as one rhythm.

Then...

A fifth heartbeat joined them.

Not from inside Emma.

From somewhere beneath the hospital.

The entire building shook.

Concrete cracked.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

Richard whispered,

"It has awakened."

Dr. Harrison looked confused.

"What has?"

Richard slowly pointed downward.

"There is another laboratory."

"No one has entered it for seventy years."

Emergency power activated.

A massive steel door at the end of the corridor slowly opened by itself.

Cold air rushed out.

Emma heard something...

Children laughing.

Four voices.

Exactly the same voices from the phone call.

Without thinking, she walked toward the darkness.

Daniel grabbed her hand.

"Don't."

Emma looked back.

"I have to know."

Inside the hidden chamber stood hundreds of glass capsules.

Most were empty.

Four remained sealed.

Inside each floated a child.

A boy.

Three girls.

About five years old.

Perfectly preserved.

Dr. Harrison whispered,

"My God..."

The nameplates beneath them read:

EVELYN

LUCAS

GRACE

NOAH

The exact names Emma and Daniel had chosen before anyone else knew.

Emma's knees gave way.

"How...?"

One capsule suddenly cracked.

Then another.

And another.

The children slowly opened their eyes.

Not monsters.

Not ghosts.

Just frightened little children.

The first little girl pressed her tiny hand against the glass.

"Mom..."

Emma's heart broke.

At that moment, Richard stepped forward with tears in his eyes for the first time.

"I spent my entire life believing these children were the end of humanity."

He looked at Emma.

"But I finally understand..."

"They were never meant to destroy us."

"They were meant to save us."

Dr. Harrison stared at the final report emerging from a printer that had somehow come back online.

The last page explained everything.

PROJECT ECHO STATUS: COMPLETE

Objective: Preserve humanity's genetic knowledge against extinction.

Method: Create children capable of inheriting the complete memories, wisdom, and resilience of every previous generation—not as weapons, but as guardians.

Claire embraced Emma tightly.

"You were never cursed."

"You were chosen."

Emma placed both hands on her stomach as tears streamed down her face.

"I was so afraid..."

A tiny voice echoed gently in her mind.

"We know, Mom."

"That's why we chose you."

Months later, Emma safely delivered four healthy babies.

No supernatural events followed.

No disasters.

No mysterious disappearances.

Only four extraordinary children who grew with unusual intelligence, deep compassion, and an uncanny understanding of people around them.

Years later, when one reporter asked Emma if the incredible story was true, she simply smiled and looked at her children playing together.

Then she answered:

May you like

"The greatest miracle isn't that they were born. It's that love—not fear—was the future humanity had been waiting for all along."

THE END
