Chapter 14 - THE BOARDROOM COUPThirty minutes later, Arthur and Marcus burst through the frosted glass doors of the executive boardroom on the top floor of Vance Industries.

Around the long mahogany conference table sat the company’s board of directors, looking distinctly uncomfortable. At the head of the table—in the seat that belonged exclusively to Arthur Vance—sat a tall, silver-haired man in a bespoke Italian suit. He was casually spinning an expensive gold fountain pen between his fingers, a smug, predatory smile playing on his lips.

"Ah, the former CEO arrives," the silver-haired man purred, standing up slowly. "Allow me to introduce myself, Arthur. I am Victor Vance—your estranged uncle, and the true majority shareholder of this corporation."

The room fell dead silent. Arthur stared at the man, memories of a bitter family feud from thirty years ago flooding back into his mind. Victor had been cast out of the family business for embezzlement and corporate sabotage, disappearing overseas and changing his name to become the shadowy financial warlord known as The Architect.

"You're dead," Arthur said through clenched teeth, stepping forward. "The family records showed you died in a plane crash in Geneva twenty years ago."

"A convenient fiction, my dear nephew," Victor laughed, spreading his arms wide. "Death is just a state of mind—much like ownership. Thanks to your late wife’s meticulous backdoor legal maneuvering, combined with my acquisition of your debt portfolios, I now legally hold fifty-one percent of Vance Industries. You are officially voted out of your own company."

The board members nervously avoided Arthur’s gaze, lowering their eyes in cowardly silence. Victor leaned across the table, his eyes locking onto Arthur’s with malicious glee.

"Security!" Victor shouted toward the door. "Escort Mr. Vance out of the building. And make sure he doesn't take any company property with him."

Two burly corporate security guards stepped forward, reaching out to grab Arthur’s arms.

Arthur didn't resist. He let them grab his jacket, his expression shifting from anger to a chilling, incomprehensible smirk. He looked straight into Victor’s eyes and whispered four words that made the older man’s blood run cold: "Checkmate, dear uncle."
