Chapter 5 - THE ART OF THE COUNTER-ATTACKArthur did not storm into the hallway and scream. He did not smash vases or demand answers. Decades in the ruthless corporate world had taught him one vital survival rule: Never show your hand until you hold all the winning cards.

He backed away silently into the darkness of his bedroom, sliding back into bed beside the sleeping viper. His mind was racing, cold and calculating. The woman he had trusted with his home, his heart, and his daughter was a professional predator, executing a long-term corporate and marital heist.

The next morning, Arthur woke up with a mask of his own—a mask of absolute, unwavering devotion. He kissed Evelyn’s cheek, told her he loved her, and left for the office earlier than usual. But instead of going to his corporate headquarters, he drove straight to Marcus’s private law office.

Marcus nearly dropped his coffee mug when the billionaire CEO walked unannounced into his office, locking the door behind him.

"Marcus," Arthur said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "You were right about everything. Now, I need you to help me skin a snake."

For six hours, the two men locked themselves in the office. They pulled up every financial record, every phone log, and every digital footprint left by Evelyn since the charity gala where they first met. What they uncovered sent shockwaves through the room: Evelyn wasn't a low-level event organizer at all. Her real name was Evelyn Cruz, a convicted financial scammer who had operated under three different aliases, targeting wealthy executives across three states.

Worse still, she had an accomplice—a man registered as her "brother," who was actually her long-time romantic partner and the mastermind behind the hostile takeover of Vance Industries.

"She’s playing a multi-million-dollar long game," Marcus whispered in disbelief. "And she’s about to execute the final clause of the postnuptial agreement tomorrow, which gives her fifty percent control of your personal estate if you file for divorce, or full management rights if you are incapacitated."

Arthur’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "She wants my empire? I’ll give her a stage. Let’s see how well she dances when the music stops."
