CHAPTER 7 – The Letter Shadow Was Never Meant to Carry

The birth certificate changed everything.

Detective Miller reopened every unsolved kidnapping case from the past fifteen years.

Names that had been forgotten...

Faces that had disappeared...

Families who had stopped hoping.

They all pointed back to the same criminal network.

But one mystery remained.

Why had Shadow carried that hidden envelope for so many years?

Forensic experts carefully unfolded another sheet of paper tucked behind the birth certificate.

It wasn't a legal document.

It was a handwritten letter.

The ink had faded, but every word was still readable.

"If this dog ever reaches you, it means I failed. Trust him, not the people wearing uniforms. Shadow knows where the missing children are buried... and where the living ones are hidden. Follow him."

The signature froze everyone's blood.

It belonged to Officer Daniel Brooks

A detective who had supposedly died in a car accident eight years earlier.

Detective Miller immediately ordered the old case reopened.

The accident scene was reexamined.

The car had never crashed by accident.

Its brake lines had been deliberately cut.

Daniel Brooks hadn't been silenced because he was corrupt...

He had been murdered because he was getting too close to the truth.

Shadow had been his partner all along.

Not an attack dog.

A trained rescue dog.

One that Daniel had secretly used to locate kidnapped children.

Emily looked at Shadow with tears in her eyes.

"You've been trying to finish his mission... all by yourself."

Shadow gently rested his head on her shoulder.

As if he'd been waiting years for someone to finally understand.

The next morning, Shadow suddenly stood at the front door.

He barked only once.

Then he ran toward the mountains.

Detective Miller didn't hesitate.

"Follow him!"

After a two-hour climb, Shadow stopped before an abandoned stone mine.

The entrance had been sealed for years.

Or so everyone believed.

Behind loose rocks...

They discovered a hidden tunnel.

Inside were children's drawings covering the walls.

Tiny handprints.

Old blankets.

Empty food cans.

Someone had kept children alive there for years.

But the tunnel wasn't empty.

At the very end...

A frightened teenage girl stepped into the flashlight beam.

She whispered through trembling lips,

"Are you... finally here?"

May you like

Then she looked directly at Emily.

"I've been waiting for my little sister."
