CHAPTER 5 "The Butler's Secret Changed Everything the Prescott Brothers Believed About Their Own Family"

At 9:40 that night, Victoria received a call from an unknown number.
She answered without speaking.
A calm male voice said,
"My name is Charles Bennett."
"I've worked for the Prescott family for twenty-six years."
Victoria remained silent.
"I know where they hid everything."
Another pause.
"I also know they're planning to destroy evidence before sunrise."
Victoria finally spoke.
"Why help us now?"
Charles exhaled slowly.
"Because I watched your daughter beg for mercy."
"I watched decent employees get fired for showing kindness."
"And because my own daughter once survived domestic abuse."
"I stayed silent then."
"I won't stay silent again."
One hour later, Charles arrived at the hospital parking garage.
Instead of carrying luggage...
He carried three locked metal boxes.
Inside were decades of secrets.
Financial ledgers.
Private journals.
Signed agreements.
Security backups.
Property records.
Even handwritten notes from Margaret herself.
Victoria flipped through the files.
Then she stopped.
"What is this?"
Charles pointed toward a faded document.
"The original prenuptial agreement."
Victoria frowned.
Emily had told her she never kept a copy.
Charles nodded.
"Because this isn't the version she signed."
Victoria's eyes narrowed.
"What do you mean?"
"There were two."
"The first protected both spouses equally."
"The second transferred nearly every financial right to the Prescott family."
Victoria looked up sharply.
"They forged it?"
Charles slowly nodded.
"They switched the documents during the rehearsal dinner."
The room fell silent.
Forgery.
Fraud.
Conspiracy.
The crimes were becoming much larger than anyone imagined.
Then Charles unlocked the third box.
"This," he whispered, "is why they're truly terrified."
Inside lay dozens of flash drives.
Every one carefully labeled.
Dining Room.
Office.
Guest House.
Wine Cellar.
Garage.
Victoria looked confused.
Charles smiled sadly.
"The Prescott mansion has over eighty security cameras."
"They thought recordings older than thirty days disappeared."
"They didn't."
"I made backups."
Victoria stared at him.
"For twenty-six years?"
"I believed one day someone would need the truth."
Emily slowly reached for one of the drives.
Her hands trembled.
"What if there's something on these?"
Charles looked directly at her.
"There is."
"You'll finally see you were never crazy."
Emily burst into tears.
Not from fear.
From relief.
Because for the first time...
Someone else had witnessed her nightmare.
Across town, Margaret sat alone in her office.
The family attorney entered without knocking.
"We have another problem."
Margaret closed her eyes.
"What now?"
"The butler is gone."
She stood so quickly her chair crashed backward.
"What?"
"So are three archive boxes."
Margaret suddenly turned pale.
Not because of the money.
Not because of the investigation.
But because she knew exactly what had been stored inside those boxes.
Things even Ethan had never been allowed to see.
Secrets buried long before he was born.
And if those secrets reached Colonel Hart...
The Prescott family wouldn't just lose their reputation.
May you like
They could lose everything.
