CHAPTER 2 – The Fortune Wasn't What They Expected

As the vault door slowly opened...

Everyone rushed forward, expecting mountains of cash, diamonds, and priceless documents.

Instead...

They froze.

Inside were stacks of gold bars...

Bundles of cash...

And one small wooden box sitting alone in the center.

Victoria frowned.

"What's inside?"

Evelyn's hands trembled as she lifted the box.

There was no jewelry.

No money.

Only an old photograph.

It showed a much younger Richard Whitmore standing beside Evelyn, both smiling while holding a little boy no one in the family had ever seen before.

Gasps filled the room.

"What child is that?" someone whispered.

Before Evelyn could answer, the attorney removed one final sealed envelope.

"My final confession," he read.

"If you're hearing these words... I'm already gone."

The room became deadly still.

"I've spent my entire life pretending to be the perfect father and husband."

"But the greatest mistake I ever made... was abandoning the child Evelyn and I were forced to hide."

Victoria's face turned white.

Richard continued in the letter:

"My fortune doesn't belong to the children who fought over my money."

"It belongs to the only person who protected my greatest secret for more than forty years."

Evelyn began crying.

She had never wanted the money.

She had only wanted the truth to die with him.

Then...

She reached into her apron pocket and slowly pulled out an old silver key.

"I suppose..."

"It's finally time for everyone to meet Richard's real heir."

At that exact moment...

The mansion's front door opened.

A tall stranger stepped inside.

He looked exactly like Richard Whitmore forty years earlier.

And every member of the family suddenly realized...

Everything they believed about their billionaire father had been a lie.
