CHAPTER 5 – The Billionaire's Last Trap

The police escorted Victoria and Marcus into separate rooms inside the mansion while detectives collected evidence.

But Daniel wasn't watching them.

He was staring at the portrait of Richard Whitmore hanging above the fireplace.

"You planned all of this..."

The attorney nodded.

"Richard knew they wouldn't believe a letter."

"So he created one final test."

He reached into his briefcase and pulled out another sealed envelope marked:

OPEN ONLY AFTER THE RECORDING IS PLAYED.

Daniel carefully broke the seal.

Inside was a handwritten message.

"Daniel... if you've made it this far, then you proved something money never could."

"The vault wasn't my greatest treasure."

"The real inheritance is hidden beneath the old greenhouse where your mother used to grow roses."

Everyone looked toward the backyard.

Even the detectives paused.

Within minutes they dug beneath the cracked stone floor of the abandoned greenhouse.

Three feet down...

The shovel struck metal.

A large iron chest emerged from the earth.

Inside were old journals...

Business ledgers...

Dozens of photographs...

And a thick folder labeled:

WHITMORE FOUNDATION – SECRET OWNERSHIP.

The attorney opened it.

His eyes widened.

"My God..."

Richard had quietly transferred nearly 70% of his empire into a charitable foundation years earlier.

Legally...

No member of the Whitmore family could inherit it.

Only the foundation's appointed chairperson could control it.

Victoria laughed from across the room.

"So who gets it?"

The attorney slowly turned toward Evelyn.

"Richard appointed Mrs. Evelyn Brooks."

Silence.
