CHAPTER 8 — The Grave That Had Never Been Opened

At 3:15 a.m., Emily, Richard, and two trusted guards arrived at the Harrington family cemetery.
A thick fog covered the grounds.
Rows of towering marble monuments stretched into the darkness.
In the center stood a magnificent angel statue.
Its face was calm...
Its eyes forever dry.
"The angel who never cries," Emily whispered.
Richard nodded.
"My father had this monument built decades ago."
Emily walked toward it.
Without knowing why...
She reached beneath the stone pedestal.
Her fingers touched cold metal.
A hidden lever.
Click.
The entire base of the statue shifted sideways.
Richard gasped.
"There... there was a secret chamber?"
Inside lay a small iron box covered in dust.
Emily carefully opened it.
There were photographs...
Birth certificates...
Hospital records...
And dozens of financial documents exposing years of fraud.
But one item made Richard collapse to his knees.
A videotape labeled:
"If I disappear... show this to my father."
Emily stared at it in disbelief.
Her mother had known she was in danger.
She had recorded everything.
Richard whispered through tears,
"She's been trying to tell me the truth for twenty years..."
Just then...
Headlights flooded the cemetery.
More than a dozen black SUVs surrounded them.
Armed men stepped out one by one.
At their center...
Evelyn Harrington slowly emerged, dressed in black, clapping her hands.
"Congratulations," she said with a cold smile.
"You finally found it."
Emily held the iron box tightly.
Evelyn's smile vanished.
Then she calmly raised one hand.
"Take the box."
The armed men began advancing.
Emily, Richard, and the guards were completely surrounded.
And then...
From somewhere beyond the fog...
Hundreds of flashing blue and red lights suddenly illuminated the cemetery.
A powerful voice thundered through loudspeakers:
May you like
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons immediately!"
Evelyn's confident smile disappeared for the first time in twenty years.
