Chapter 8 - The Stolen Face

Grant fell back against the doorframe, his legs buckling beneath him. “No... no! You’re dead! I saw the boat burn!”

“You saw what you wanted to see, David,” Julian said softly.

Grant’s eyes dilated in pure terror at the sound of that name. David.

I stood up, holding Noah close as Julian stepped forward to stand beside me, his arm wrapping protectively around my waist.

“David Vance,” I said, my voice echoing in the quiet room. “A low-level accountant hired by Ashford Capital eight years ago. A man who underwent six surgeries in South America to steal the face and identity of the man who took pity on him.”

The truth was finally laid bare.

The man sitting across from me in the divorce firm wasn’t even Grant Ashford. He was an imposter named David Vance who had worked with the real Grant—Julian’s biological brother—to eliminate Julian. But when the yacht exploded, David Vance double-crossed Grant, murdered him in the water, and assumed Grant’s identity using altered dental records and facial reconstruction!

“You killed Grant that night,” Julian said, his voice laced with profound sorrow and cold fury. “You took his name, took his seat at the firm, and tried to take my wife. But you forgot one thing, David.”

David scrambled backward on his hands and knees. “Julian... please... it was Grant’s idea! Grant wanted you dead!”

“Grant was a fool,” Julian replied. “But you are a monster. And monsters don't get to wear my family's name.”
