Chapter 3 - The Impossible DNA

Within two hours, the divorce settlement meeting dissolved into a crime scene investigation. Federal agents from the Financial Crimes Unit, tipped off by Martin Bell three days prior, arrived at the law firm to impound Grant’s devices and place him under immediate travel restrictions.

Grant sat in an interrogation room at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, flanked by three high-priced defense lawyers. He demanded an immediate, emergency DNA test to prove Noah was not his son, desperately hoping to frame me for infidelity and discredit my claims.

“If the kid isn’t mine, her entire story falls apart!” Grant screamed at his lead attorney through the observation glass. “She’s playing a game! Run the test!”

Three days later, the results arrived under armed court escort.

Martin Bell, Grant’s legal team, and I gathered in the judge’s private chambers. The court-appointed geneticist unsealed the envelope and read the findings aloud.

“The DNA sample pulled from the child, Noah Ashford, shows a 99.99% direct paternal match to the reference sample of Grant Ashford.”

Grant slammed his fists onto the judge's mahogany desk. “That’s impossible! You saw my medical files! I am sterile! I cannot produce sperm!”

The judge frowned over her glasses. “Mr. Ashford, the science does not lie. Scientifically speaking, you are the biological father of this child. Or rather... your identical genetic match is.”

I smiled faintly from my seat. “Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, don’t they, Doctor?”

Grant froze. The air in the room turned to ice as the realization hit him like an freight train.
