Chapter 1 - The Intruder's Warning

The heavy double doors of Suite 1142 burst open.
"Get him out of here!" Dr. Spencer yelled, his voice cracking with panic.
Two burly hospital security guards rushed into the room, their hands reaching for a boy who looked no older than fourteen. His clothes were faded, his sneakers held together by duct tape, and his knuckles were smudged with dirt. In his right hand, he clutched a small bunch of wild daisies.
But it wasn't his appearance that froze Robert Blackwood in his tracks. It was the boy’s eyes—burning with an absolute, terrifying certainty.
"Mr. Blackwood, please! You have to listen to me!" the boy screamed as the guards grabbed his shoulders, dragging him backward. "The machines are keeping her sick! The respirator... the IV fluids... they are killing Lily! Let her body wake up!"
"Robert, call the police!" Rebecca gasped, pressing herself against Robert’s chest. Her body trembled, her hands clutching his expensive lapels. "He’s a lunatic. How did he even get up to this floor? Look at him, he’s dangerous!"
Robert didn't answer. He looked from the boy to his daughter, Lily, whose pale face remained motionless under the plastic oxygen mask. The steady, mechanical hiss-click of the ventilator filled the sudden silence.
"Wait," Robert commanded. His voice wasn't loud, but it carried the absolute authority of a billionaire who ruled an empire.
The guards stopped instantly.
Robert walked slowly toward the boy. "Who are you? And how do you know my daughter’s name?"
"My name is Joey Fletcher," the boy said, breathing heavily. He didn't look afraid of the giant guards or the imposing billionaire. "I go to the public school across from her tutoring center. Lily and I... we’re friends, sir. She used to sneak out to talk to me. She told me everything."
"And what exactly did she tell you, Joey?" Robert asked, his eyes narrowing.
"She told me she started getting dizzy after her new stepmother started giving her 'special brain vitamins' every morning," Joey said, pointing a finger directly at Rebecca.
Rebecca’s face turned white. "That is an absolute lie! Robert, are you seriously going to listen to a street rat over your own wife and the best doctors in the country?"
"Get him out," Dr. Spencer urged, stepping between Robert and Joey. "Mr. Blackwood, your daughter is in a delicate neurological state. This stress, this chaos—it's highly unprofessional and dangerous."

Joey struggled against the guards, dropping his daisies onto the sterile tile floor. As they dragged him out the door, he yelled one last thing: "Check her school bag, Mr. Blackwood! Check the hidden pocket! She hid the bottle there because she was scared to take them!"
The heavy doors swung shut. The room returned to its rhythmic, artificial breathing. But the air in Suite 1142 had completely changed.
