Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Twist

Two weeks later, the sun was shining brightly over Boston.

Lily was sitting up in her hospital bed, the color back in her cheeks, laughing as she watched a cartoon on the television.

The door opened, and Robert walked in, followed by Joey Fletcher. Joey was wearing a brand-new set of clothes, though he still looked slightly uncomfortable in his clean, expensive sneakers.

"Joey!" Lily squealed, her face lighting up.

"Hey, Lily," Joey said, giving her a shy wave. "You look way better than the last time I saw you."

"Thank you for saving me," she said softly.

Robert walked over and placed a hand on Joey’s shoulder. "Joey, there’s something I need to tell you. And something I need to tell Lily."

Both kids looked at him, confused.

Robert pulled a sealed envelope from his pocket. "After the arrest, my team did a full background check on everyone involved. We wanted to make sure there were no more threats. But during that search, we looked into your family history, Joey. Your mother, Sarah Fletcher."

Joey’s expression hardened. "My mom passed away when I was ten. She was a good woman. She worked three jobs just to keep a roof over us."

"She was an incredible woman," Robert said, his voice thick with emotion. "And fifteen years ago, before I met Lily’s mother, Sarah and I had a brief, beautiful relationship. When she got pregnant, my family’s lawyers threatened her. They paid her off and forced her to sign an agreement to never contact me again. I was young, foolish, and let my father control my life. I never knew she kept the baby."

Robert took a deep breath, a tear slipping down his cheek. "Joey... you’re my son. Lily is your biological half-sister."

Joey’s jaw dropped. Lily looked from her father to Joey, her eyes wide with shock.

"We're... siblings?" Lily whispered.

Joey looked at the billionaire, then at the girl he had risked everything to save. A slow, disbelief-filled smile spread across his face.

"I guess... I guess that’s why I couldn't let them hurt you," Joey said, his voice cracking.

Robert pulled both of his children into a tight, fierce embrace. The empire he had built didn't matter anymore. His wealth didn't matter. For the first time in his life, looking at his son and daughter safe in his arms, Robert Blackwood knew he was finally, truly, the richest man in the world.
