Chapter 5 - THE SYSTEM EXPOSED“That... that’s out of context! That’s an AI deepfake!” Richard shrieked, his voice cracking hysterically as he thrashed against Mike’s iron grip. “You hacked me! You fabricated those files! You can’t use illegal evidence in court!”

“This isn’t a courtroom, Richard. This is reality,” Jax said coldly, typing another command into the laptop. A second folder popped up on the screen, stamped with official-looking legal and financial headers. “And that’s just the home video archive. Let’s open folder number two, shall we? Let’s look at why you were really so desperate to keep Mia locked inside that house tonight.”

The screen shifted, displaying high-resolution banking statements, offshore wire transfer receipts, and digital legal documents bearing Richard Vance’s signature.

“Meet Vance Holdings LLC, registered in the British Virgin Islands,” Jax announced, reading through the data as it scrolled past. “For the past three years, Richard here has been systematically draining the multi-million-dollar trust fund left behind by his late first wife—Mia’s biological mother. He blew millions on high-stakes private poker rings, luxury sports cars, and his lavish lifestyle with his new mistress.”

Serena—wait, no, Richard’s current wife wasn’t even mentioned; the financial records showed he was hiding the embezzlement entirely from his current social circle, draining every cent meant for Mia’s future education and medical care.

“The audit trail shows he’s completely broke,” Jax continued, looking up from the screen with a disgusted smirk. “He was days away from total bankruptcy. The only thing standing between him and financial ruin was Mia’s remaining trust disbursement, which unlocks automatically on her eighth birthday—which happens to be next week. But there was a catch in the trust agreement: if something happened to Mia, or if she was declared a ward of the state due to ‘unstable domestic conditions,’ the remaining funds would revert to her legal guardian... which Richard fraudulently manipulated last year to ensure total control.”

In plain terms: Richard was planning to make Mia disappear before her eighth birthday so he could pocket the remaining millions and clear his massive debts.

The horrifying puzzle pieces clicked into place. The locked doors, the broken puppy, the frantic midnight hunt when Mia managed to crawl out of the basement window and escape into the rain with her injured pet.

Richard slumped against the metal shed door, his legs finally giving out beneath him. He slid down until he was sitting on the concrete once more, staring blankly at the floor, completely defeated.

“You’re a monster,” Mike whispered, looking down at the broken executive with utter revulsion. He pulled out his phone, bypassing the local police dispatch entirely—knowing too well how easily wealthy men with city council connections could grease the palms of local cops. Instead, Mike dialed a direct, encrypted federal extension.

“Yeah. This is Big Mike down at the Iron Syndicate garage,” Mike spoke clearly into the phone. “We got a high-priority federal tax fraud, financial embezzlement, and child endangerment case wrapped up in a neat little bow for you. Send an unmarked federal marshal unit right now. And bring a child protective services emergency unit with a medical team.”
