Chapter 3 - The Collapse of the House of CardsThe silence in the ballroom was absolute, broken only by the steady drumbeat of the rain outside.

Dominic forced a hysterical laugh, though his knees were visibly shaking. He pointed a trembling finger at Victor. "What kind of cheap psychological thriller are you staging here? Who do you think you are? You can't just walk in here and—"
His phone buzzed violently in his breast pocket.
Then, around the room, a dozen other phones began to vibrate simultaneously. Investors, board members, and executives pulled out their devices, their faces instantly draining of color.
Old man Harrison’s phone rang loudly. With trembling fingers, he swiped the screen. A second later, he dropped his glass, the remaining champagne splashing across his expensive leather shoes.
"Harrison Logistics..." the older man breathed, his voice cracking. "Our primary credit line... it just got revoked. All of them. Bank of America, Sterling Capital, Swiss Trust... they're calling in the fifty-million-dollar bridge loan immediately."
Cynthia spun around, grabbing her father's arm. "Daddy? What are you talking about? Fix it!"
"I can't!" Harrison screamed, his face turning purple. "The accounts are frozen! Every single cent is locked!"
Dominic pulled his own phone out, his hands shaking so violently he dropped it twice before managing to unlock the screen. He tapped on his banking app.
ACCOUNT STATUS: FROZEN / ZERO BALANCE.
He clicked over to his corporate dashboard—the command center of his multi-million-dollar logistics empire. The screen flickered, loaded for a second, and then displayed a stark, chilling message:
ERROR 404: ENTITY DISSOLVED UNDER SECTION 9 OF STERLING HOLDINGS.
Dominic stumbled backward, crashing into a velvet-draped cocktail table and sending hors d'oeuvres flying in every direction. He stared at Victor with eyes wide with sheer terror.
"Sterling... Holdings?" Dominic choked out, the name finally registering in his brain. The richest, most ruthless private equity and venture capital conglomerate on the globe. A firm so powerful they bought and sold governments. "You... you're a Sterling? Viv... your last name is Sterling?!"
Viv slowly walked closer, her gaze unyielding. "You always wondered how your failing startup suddenly got funded overnight, Dominic. You used to brag about your financial wizardry at dinner parties. You thought you were a business god."
Viv stopped just inches from him, her voice dropping to a frigid whisper. "You were nothing. You were just a stray dog my family fed out of pity because I asked them to. And now, the table is empty."
Dominic fell to his knees, utterly broken. He grabbed the hem of Viv’s coat, tears streaming down his face as he humiliated himself in front of the city's elite. "Viv! Please! Think of Sophia! We’re a family! You can't do this to me! I made a mistake, I was seduced by the money, by Cynthia—please, forgive me!"
Sophia, standing safely behind her mother, looked down at her father with a strange, emotionless maturity that no six-year-old should ever possess. She clutched the paper necklace tighter against her chest.
"You're not the best daddy ever," Sophia whispered softly.

Victor stepped forward, placing a heavy, gloved hand on Dominic’s shoulder. He leaned down, his voice smooth as silk.
"Pack your things, Dominic," Victor whispered. "You have exactly ten minutes before the bailiffs arrive to repossess the clothes on your back."
