Chapter 6 - The Ghost of the Sterling EstateThe Sterling ancestral estate sat on a sprawling cliffside overlooking the crashing Atlantic Ocean, miles away from the neon lights and shallow betrayals of the city.

For six years, this sprawling stone fortress had been a ghost to Viv. She had chosen to walk away from its immense power, its endless security details, and its suffocating expectations to live a simple, ordinary life with a man she believed was pure of heart.
Now, walking back through its towering wrought-iron gates, holding Sophia’s hand, it felt less like a cage and more like a fortress of absolute safety.
As the town car crunched up the gravel driveway, the massive oak doors of the manor swung open. Standing on the marble steps were her mother, Eleanor Sterling, and her second brother, Julian—a brilliant corporate litigator known across international courts as 'The Executioner.'
Eleanor’s eyes welled with tears the moment she saw Sophia. Without a word, the elegant, silver-haired matriarch rushed down the steps, dropping to her knees in the rain to scoop the little girl into her arms.
"My sweet angel," Eleanor sobbed softly, burying her face in Sophia’s dark curls. "Grandma’s got you. You never have to be afraid again."
Sophia giggled, wrapping her arms around her grandmother’s neck. "Grandma, we saw the big lights! And Daddy fell down!"
Julian walked over, his sharp eyes meeting Viv’s. He offered a tight, knowing half-smile, draping a warm cashmere shawl over his sister’s shoulders.
"Welcome home, Viv," Julian said quietly. "We told you so seven years ago."
Viv offered a tired, genuine smile, pulling the shawl tight against the chill. "I know, Julian. You were right about every single thing. But I had to learn the hard way."
"Nobody learns without scars," Julian replied, turning his gaze toward the dark horizon. "Speaking of scars... Dominic’s legal team tried to file an emergency injunction an hour ago to freeze our assets. They claimed our liquidation of his company was an illegal hostile takeover."
Viv raised an eyebrow. "Oh? With what money? He’s entirely broke."
Julian smirked, a dangerous glint in his eye. "That’s the amusing part. He tried to retain a high-priced defense firm using a credit card that was already flagged by our bank. The police arrested him at the ATM outside the hotel for attempted fraud."
Viv felt a brief pang of irony. Dominic’s obsession with money, status, and luxury had finally become the very noose that hanged him.

"Leave him to the courts," Viv said, walking up the steps toward the warm glow of the foyer. "I'm done with him. My only priority now is rebuilding a peaceful life for Sophia."
"Consider it handled," Julian said, following her inside. "By morning, Dominic Sterling won't even be a footnote in corporate history. He’ll be a cautionary tale."
