Chapter 15 - THE MONTE CARLO TRAP SPRUNG

Victor Thorne’s face turned deep crimson. He reached into his jacket for his phone, but Richard Sterling stepped forward, holding a legal injunction issued by the High Court of Monaco.

"Victor Thorne," Richard announced loudly enough for the entire European elite to hear. "Because your firm relied on fraudulent internal data to back your short margin accounts, City Group and Deutsche Bank have issued an immediate $4 billion margin call against Thorne Capital."

"That's impossible!" Thorne roared, his hands trembling as his phone began ringing furiously with calls from his prime brokers. "My liquid reserves are backed by Swiss bonds!"

"They were backed by Swiss bonds," I corrected mercilessly. "Until 8:00 AM this morning, when Vance Capital purchased the debt obligations of your Swiss custodian bank. We liquidated your bonds to satisfy your outstanding liabilities."

Chloe began hyperventilating, backing away from Thorne as if he were covered in fire. "No... no! Victor, you said you were going to crush them! You promised me I would be safe here!"

"Shut up, you brainless leech!" Thorne screamed, shoving Chloe away so hard she fell backward into the shallow end of the decorative rooftop pool, her gold dress soaking wet, her expensive hair extensions ruined as the crowd burst into ruthless laughter.

Thorne turned back to me, his chest heaving. "You think you've won, girl?! I still hold $2 billion in hard assets across Europe! You can't touch my personal portfolio!"

"I don't need to touch it, Victor," I said softly, as the sound of heavy police sirens began echoing up from the streets of Monte Carlo. "The French financial police and Interpol are coming up the elevator right now. They're seizing your hard assets under international racketeering and money laundering statutes."
