Chapter 20 - The Unwritten Page

The corporate towers of the city still pierced the clouds miles away, their neon tickers flashing numbers of immense wealth and desperate power. Empires would rise and fall; fortunes would be made and lost in the merciless cycles of the global market.
But inside the Reed estate, the world had stopped spinning on its axis of greed and vengeance.
That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in strokes of bruised purple and burning gold, Alexander and Evelyn sat together on the back porch overlooking the sprawling gardens.
A single red rose—freshly bloomed—swayed gently in the evening breeze near the edge of the patio.
Evelyn rested her head against the back of her rocking chair, closing her eyes with a quiet, contented sigh.
"What are you thinking about, Mom?" Alexander asked softly, handing her a fresh cup of tea.
Evelyn opened her eyes, looking out past the estate's iron gates toward the distant horizon where the city lights were just beginning to flicker on like distant stars.
"I was just thinking," Evelyn smiled softly, "that a house is only as strong as the people who sit by the hearth."

He reached out, clinking his teacup gently against hers in the quiet evening air, ready to write whatever came next.
