Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Shadow EmpireA sharp rifle crack shattered the warehouse windows as Marcus’s sniper on the crane eliminated the guard standing beside Julian.

Simultaneously, Alex lunged forward, tackling the nearest armed mercenary to the ground, stripping his weapon, and firing upward at the catwalks. The warehouse exploded into chaos—gunfire echoing off the corrugated metal walls like thunder.
Alex scrambled across the oil-stained floor toward Elena as bullets chipped the concrete around his boots. He drew a combat knife from his belt and sliced through the thick nylon ropes securing her wrists.
"Alex!" Elena cried, falling into his arms.
"I've got you. I've got you," Alex breathed, pulling her behind a stack of wooden crates. "The boys are safe. They're in the armored truck with Marcus."
Tears streamed down Elena’s bruised cheeks as she grabbed Alex's coat. "He tricked us, Alex. Seven years ago... Julian threatened to kill you while you were in the coma if I didn't take the boys and disappear. He made me sign the non-disclosure agreements... he made the doctor tell you that you were sterile!"
"I know," Alex said, his heart aching with seven years of stolen joy. "I know everything now. But it ends tonight."
Suddenly, a heavy iron gate slammed down, blocking the main exit of the warehouse.
Julian’s laughter echoed through the PA system. He had fled to the upper glass control booth overlooking the warehouse floor.
"You think a few snipers can stop me, Alex?!" Julian shouted through the speakers. "I've locked down the entire dock! In three minutes, the automated charges I planted along the foundation will detonate, sinking this entire pier into the Hudson River! You and Elena will drown together!"
Alex looked up at the glass booth. He pulled out his encrypted phone and activated his ultimate counter-measure—the master override program he had spent seven years designing for emergency corporate lockdowns.
"Julian!" Alex shouted, his voice ringing over the sound of alarms. "You forgot who built the infrastructure for this entire city's smart-systems!"
Alex swiped his thumb across his phone screen.
Instantly, every electronic system in the warehouse malfunctioned. The automated charges began short-circuiting, their digital timers counting backward at triple speed. The electronic locks on the control room doors sealed shut, locking Julian inside his own glass prison.
"What did you do?!" Julian’s panicked voice screamed through the intercom. "Override! Cancel override!"
"You tried to destroy my family, Julian," Alex said coldly into his phone. "Now watch your empire burn."

Alex grabbed Elena’s hand. "Run!"
They sprinted toward the side service exit just as Marcus blew the emergency doors open with a breaching charge. They burst out into the night air right as the control room glass exploded inward, leaving Julian screaming inside as the private security forces of the FBI—alerted by the Trojan horse program—helos descended from the sky.
