CHAPTER 3 – “The Locked Room Beneath the Company”

The investigators didn’t arrest Richard.

Not yet.

Instead, they turned to Emily.

“Ms. Carter, that key belongs to your grandfather’s private vault.”

Emily’s throat tightened.

“My grandfather died before I was born.”

One investigator looked at Richard.

“That is what he wanted everyone to believe.”

Richard suddenly slammed his fist on the table.

“This is a corporate matter. Get out.”

But for the first time in twenty-five years, nobody obeyed him.

Emily stood from the floor slowly.

Her knees hurt.

Her pride burned.

But her voice was calm.

“Take me to the vault.”

The room went cold.

Richard stepped in front of her.

“You don’t understand what you’re doing.”

Emily looked at him.

“No. But you do.”

Deep beneath Holloway Global, behind a wall of archived files, was a steel door no employee had ever entered.

Emily placed the black key into the lock.

Click.

Inside the vault were dozens of boxes.

But one box had her name on it.

EMILY CARTER — OPEN ONLY WHEN SHE KNEELS BEFORE A LIAR.

Her hands shook as she lifted the lid.

Inside was a video tape.

A birth certificate.

And one photograph that made her blood run cold.

It showed Richard standing beside her mother…

…holding Emily as a newborn baby.
