CHAPTER 4 – “The Man Who Stole Her Life”

The tape played in the boardroom thirty minutes later.
Emily’s mother appeared on screen, pale and terrified.
“If you are watching this, Richard has finally lost control.”
Everyone stared.
Richard backed toward the door.
“He is not the founder’s loyal successor,” her mother continued. “He forged documents. He stole voting shares. And he tried to force me to give up my daughter.”
Emily stopped breathing.
Her mother’s voice broke.
“Emily… Richard Holloway is not just your boss.”
A long pause.
“He is your father.”
The entire boardroom erupted.
Emily turned toward Richard.
Her whole life collapsed in one sentence.
Richard’s eyes filled with panic, not regret.
“I did it to protect the company,” he whispered.
Emily stepped closer.
“No. You did it because you couldn’t control my mother.”
Then the final part of the tape played.
Her mother looked straight into the camera.
“The key doesn’t only open the vault. It opens the account where Richard hid every stolen dollar.”
The investigators moved.
Richard ran.
But before he reached the elevator, the doors opened.
An elderly man in a wheelchair waited there.
Emily recognized him from old portraits.
Her grandfather.
Alive.
He looked at Richard and smiled coldly.

“Hello, son. Ready to explain why you buried me before I was dead?”
