Chapter 2 - The House of Cardsđ„ CLICKBAIT TITLE: HE THOUGHT HE OWNED EVERYTHING WE BUILT TOGETHER... UNTIL I REMINDED HIM WHOSE NAME WAS ACTUALLY ON THE DEED!

"Emma, sit down and stop making a spectacle of yourself," Margaret hissed, leaning forward so the diamond tennis bracelet on her wrist clicked against the table. "Youâve always been dramatic, but airing your little business grievances at a family dinner is pathetic."
"Business grievances, Margaret?" I tilted my head, letting out a soft, melodic laugh that seemed to unnerve half the table. "Oh, you sweet, naive woman. You think this is about marriage counseling?"
I finally walked a few steps closerânot back to my seat, but standing right beside the service station where the waitstaff hovered nervously.
"Daniel," I said softly, locking eyes with my husband. "Tell your mother what you told me last month when you asked for a 'temporary separation' while you figure out your 'feelings' for Claire."
Danielâs jaw clenched so hard I thought a tooth might crack. "Emma, stop it."
"Tell her," I pressed, my voice dropping an octave, losing all warmth. "Tell her how you planned to handle our assets. How you proudly informed me that since my name was 'barely mentioned' in the corporate restructuring of Vanguard Holdings, you would graciously give me a severance package. A nice little payout to walk away quietly, while you and your little office sweetheart kept the penthouse, the cars, and the company."
Gasps erupted around the table. Danielâs sister dropped her fork; it clattered loudly against a porcelain plate.
"Daniel? Is that true?" Margaret demanded, spinning around to look at her son, her maternal shield momentarily dropping in shock at the sheer scale of the scandal. "You tried to throw her out with pennies?"
"Mother, shut up," Daniel snarled, standing up so abruptly his chair tipped backward and crashed onto the floor.
The room went dead silent. The illusion of a happy, elite family gathering shattered into a million jagged pieces.
"You think youâre so smart, don't you, Emma?" Daniel sneered, his mask of civilized grace completely slipping away. His face was mottled red with fury. "You think because you sat quietly that you've won something? Vanguard Holdings is my family's legacy. My name is on the registry. Youâre just a footnote!"

I smiled. It wasn't a kind smile. It was the smile of an executioner dropping the blade.
"Is that right, Daniel?" I whispered, pulling a single folded paper from the gold envelope. "Then I suppose you haven't checked your corporate portal today. Because at 10:17 AM... Closing complete."
